Lodge Theme and Plan 2016: “Many Hands Make LIGHT Work”

Comments Off on Lodge Theme and Plan 2016: “Many Hands Make LIGHT Work”

Worshipful Master’s Introduction to the Theme

I have spent time contemplating the Five Points of Fellowship described in all Craft Lodges and have decided this year to be a year in which we focus on the “manual” aspect of Freemasonry.  More specifically, I remind all Brethren that more Light in Masonry comes to those who work at it, and only many hands will truly make the Light work.

Ivanhoe Lodge continues to be a Lodge of enlightened men.  We need to continue to have the Wisdom, Courage and Fortitude to make positive changes while remaining true to our espirit du corps.  This means that every Mason must find a way to grow in his own light through his own efforts.  But each of us also needs to remember that it is “hand to hand” that we recognize, support, and encourage the work we do in the world of Masonry together and with the world at large.  We need to find ways to ensure that the next group of Officers and Ivanhoe Brethren are willing to lend a hand and take on the “manual” labour that keeps a lodge vital.

It is my intention to ensure the education component of Ivanhoe’s meetings continues to hold a place of primacy and is relevant and available to members and prospective members alike.  We have had a good attendance from prospective members this year and I encourage all Ivanhoe Brethren to help ensure this continues.  To do this, I hope to host short, informal Masonic talks done before and after Lodge meetings.

But I feel that we still need to reach out more.  We need to be more active in helping Brethren who are sick or who are in need of support and to each do our part to bring Brethren back into the Lodge and to help alleviate the pressures on those Brethren who have been key in keeping the Lodge moving forward.  In any Lodge there is the danger of having too few members doing too much.

2015: Courage and Fortitude

Comments Off on 2015: Courage and Fortitude

IMG_1230The lodge theme for 2015 is “Courage and Fortitude”.

“It has been traditional that on the first and third Thursday of the month, members of Ivanhoe Lodge and their visitors congregate to conduct lodge business or confer a degree. It has been a time for work, fellowship, and education. In our changing world, we must think about how we have done things in the past and determine if our methods best serve the lodge. If they do, we must ensure that these habits continue. If they do not, they must be changed, even if the change is controversial.

“While there are many things in Ivanhoe Lodge that work very well, there are others we need to address. We need to have the Courage and the Fortitude to make changes in the way we do things. Do we need to read minutes at each Business meeting? Do we need to continue with our present method of Officer Succession, when we can see it doesn’t work anymore? Do we need have two meetings a month at all?  Are we taking care of each other the way we should? These are all things we need to explore.”  – The Worshipful Master for 2015

This Thursday, the Lodge is continuing its theme of Back On Basics and is hosting a Rusty Tools night where all brethren, including those who haven’t been out in a while, are encouraged to attend in a relaxed atmosphere, where we will review the signs, grips and words accompanying each degree along with some floor work essentials and other items of protocol. This a great opportunity to get reacquainted with the lodge and especially the brethren. Meeting starts at 7:30pm with Lounge and Festive board meal to follow. We hope to see you there!
